Question
Stuart Whitely :Hi there my fiancee is a Filipino and has medical insurance, can a non Filipino national get medical insurance to be treated in a hospital there as i have travel insurance but i don’t want to be sent home on a plane if brake a leg lol since i have traveled so far to be with my girl, i visit about 3 to 4 times a year.
Answer
Ryan:Hi Stuart,
I do not claim to be an authority when it comes to medical insurance abroad but I think it all depends on the coverage of your travel insurance itself. Usually, what happens is if you are in some need of medical assistance, usually, you would have to pay for it and you would be reimbursed by your own insurance coverage from your home country- of course you would need to furnish your insurance company all their required documents. If you want to have medical insurance in the Philippines- I think what you can do is get an Alien Certificate of Registration (which is needed to open a bank account as well as transact with the government and most businesses) to get insurance coverage (personal) in the Philippines. Our resident expat writer should expand on these in his future articles on this site, so watch out for it!
Cheers
Ryan
