Patrick…will try to inquire if the boats are still there. I don’t think they are illegal. These are just small time boat operators and will not compete with the likes of Sun Cruises.
If you are coming from Manila, it will still be practical, though, to take the cruise rather taking the longer route.

Luchie….. Unless things have changed recently, that may be problematic for a non-local visitor..
For tourist traffic, Sun Cruises seems to have the trip locked up. The small boat operators from the North have come under the scutiny of the Coast Guard in recent years as they do not carry the authorization to carry “tourist” passengers (in other words. it’s ok for local residents and commerce, but not to compete for the tourist business)
If this has changed I would be interested in hearing more about it. I would like t see more options to get there as the “approved” method can be a bit expensive for someone wanting to make multiple trips for historical research and their schedules may not be convenient for this. A boat connection to nearby El Fraile island would also be welcomed.

You can travel by land. Try inquiring from Genesis bus (Mariveles trip) about the name of the island where you take the boat ride from. Ask also about the last trip from Mariveles if you are going back on the same day.

For those people from Pampanga and Bataan, there is another way to go to the island, that is by land and a short boat ride. Unfortunately, i forgot the name of the barrio where one can get off from the Mariveles trip of Genesis bus. From this barrio, one can take a short boat ride to Corregidor Island.

Hi Kristine,

I believe there are overnight stays, but AFAIK, all tours to the island is controlled. There were not a lot of facilities in the island so you cant just camp out anywhere.

I know the General had his own faults and shadiness common to every man but I don’t need to know any more about his personal life, SNN style than I already know about him as a soldier. The man rightfully earned his place as a soldier and leader and leave it at that.

What are the other options if you don’t want to be limited by following the time schedule of the tour? I mean, Of course, getting the travel package ensures convenience but how ’bout if you want to explore one place more than the “given” time frame by the tour? Is there other alternatives experiencing Corregidor other than the travel packages offered? As a “backpacker” traveler, I prefer being in control of my time during my travels….. I’m just asking if I have other options…. Thank you guys. :)
